Born 1938
Caryl Churchill can be considered as close to a direct ideological descendant of Brecht as you could find in contemporary British theatre. Her political work ranges from issues of gender, sexuality and sexual politics to the Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
Never afraid to break a fourth wall, sing a political song, or multi a role, she specialises in epic theatre. More recently, she has also been working with notions of dance theatre and Artaudian traditions.
